Diet to be eaten by Dengue patients
Diet therapy plays a significant role in the recovery of dengue patients. As most of the patients show symptoms of electrolyte balance, nausea, and vomiting. So, the right nutrition therapy as per the condition of the patient is to be started for them.
Diet Tips for Dengue Patients
1. In case of hypokalemia dietary sources of potassium such as coconut water, lemon water, Barley water, Soup, fruit, and vegetables are to be included in the diet.
2. Prefer to give soft food to the patient that is easy to chew and swallow.
3. Sources of vitamin C such as lime, orange, Papaya, and stewed apple to be incorporated into the diet.
4. Give Preference to easy to digest meals for eg Dal +Rice/ Khichri/ Dalia + Curd/ vegetable + Dal soups/ Idli/ Dhokla/ Suji upma/ Sabudana kheer.
5. Feed on small proportion size meals every two hrs. as per digestibility.
6. Keep a check on hygiene.
7. Try to incorporate papaya leaf extract, mint chutney, and dhania chutney into the diet
8. Squeeze lemon on your fruit salad.
9. Avoid intake of processed food, colas, and soft drinks.
10. Eat freshly prepared home-cooked food.
So, for adequate nutrition and to fulfill the all nutritional requirements of the body we should eat a healthy balanced diet. For early recovery, and better mental and physical health.
